Update 4 [10:00 AM PT, July 2, 2026]
We continue to work on improvements across all platforms to alleviate the issue of lost saves affecting a small number of players in Forza Horizon 6.
The XBOX console team have released a new update on XBOX Series X|S that resolves some of the known data loss scenarios. We recommend that all players download this update as soon as possible by following the steps outlined in this XBOX Support article to update your console manually.
As part of these ongoing updates, they have also rolled out a separate change for all players that reduces the likelihood of overall data loss.
With this change, if you experience data loss, you'll be presented with a conflict dialog the next time you load your game. To recover your progress, choose the Cloud save option, which restores your most recent saved version. This puts recovery directly in your hands, without needing to wait for our Forza Support team to roll back progress manually.
It also means that situations where a full data loss could occur will now be minimized to a single session loss.
If you continue to encounter issues with lost save data in Forza Horizon 6, please open a ticket with our Forza Support team.
We thank you for your ongoing patience as we continue to investigate these issues with upmost priority.
Update 3 [10:00 AM PT, June 18, 2026]
We have investigated and can confirm there are no known Save Data issues when creating or sharing a Livery for any of the Series 1 Reward Cars, and you are safe to use these when playing the game.
Update 2 [1:00 PM PT, June 12, 2026]
The XBOX team has started rolling out the platform update on Xbox Series X|S that alleviates lost save issues in Forza Horizon 6.
As only some players will start to receive the update automatically today, we highly recommend following the steps outlined in this XBOX Support article to download the update manually to your console as soon as possible.
Update 1 [11:00 PM PT, June 11, 2026]
The XBOX team is actively developing platform updates for XBOX Series X|S and PC to help improve these issues, so please ensure your devices are up to date.
On Windows PC platforms, these fixes have already been rolled out via the Gaming Services client.
Players on Windows PC (including Steam) should ensure that their Gaming Services is running version 37.114.10001.0 or higher. Click here for additional details on how you can check the Gaming Services version number on your system and update the application.
For players on XBOX Series X|S consoles, we are planning to release a system update that is targeting a rollout starting tomorrow, June 12. You will be able to proactively receive the update by following the steps outlined in this XBOX Support article.
Our team is investigating an issue impacting some Forza Horizon 6 players where game save progress may be lost or reset.
If you’ve been impacted by this issue, follow these steps as soon as possible:
- Please immediately open a ticket on our Forza Support website. This will allow our team to investigate your case and attempt to recover your save profile by reverting your progress back to an earlier save. We highly advise that you submit your ticket the same day the issue occurs to increase the chances of recovery.
- In the meantime, do not start new play sessions or create new saves until Forza Support has reviewed your case.
For all Forza Horizon 6 players, it is recommended that you follow these guidelines as a general "rule of thumb" to reduce the risk of progress or save loss:
- Ensure your Gaming Services app on PC or XBOX Series X|S console is fully up to date.
- On XBOX Series X|S consoles, disable Quick Resume for Forza Horizon 6.
- To disable Forza Horizon 6 from using Quick Resume, highlight the game box art anywhere in the console experience (Home, My Games & Apps, Pins, etc) and then press the Menu button, then go to Manage game and add-ons > Quick Resume settings > Disable Quick Resume.
- Ensure you are online when ‘quitting’ the game.
- Give your save time to sync to the cloud before powering off or switching devices.
- Do not force quit the game during save screens.
- Do not power off the device during gameplay.
- If you receive an "Out of space" pop up with a game crash, it is recommended that you check your storage and restart your console via the menu option or XBOX controller button.
Players who regularly switch between devices, whether it's from one console to another, or between different PCs, Steam and Cloud Gaming, should take additional care.
- Always "Quit" (console) or "Exit to desktop" (PC) once you've finished your play session, ensuring the save icon is not visible when you’re closing the game.
- Before turning off your console, shutting down your PC or force closing the Steam app, give your devices or clients at least a few minutes to ensure your latest progress has been synchronized with the cloud. This will reduce the risk of progress reversions as you switch between different platforms. XBOX Series X|S consoles, Steam and the XBOX app on PC all include game save indicators that confirm your progress has been synced.
We're also working closely with the XBOX team on platform updates for XBOX Series X|S and PC to help alleviate issues related to progress loss in Forza Horizon 6, and we'll let you know once those begin to roll out.
Thank you for your patience while we work on a resolution. We’ll continue to share updates once the issue is resolved across platforms.
