What is SteamOS?
SteamOS is a Linux-based operating system developed by Valve. It is the default operating system installed on Steam Deck devices and the upcoming Steam Machine. SteamOS is also available to third party manufacturers who are building and releasing their own handheld PC gaming devices, e.g. the Lenovo Legion Go S.
What Forza games are available on SteamOS devices?
- Forza Horizon 6 is Verified on Steam Deck devices using SteamOS when playing the game through the Steam store using the default settings.
- Meanwhile, Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5 are currently Playable on Steam Deck and SteamOS devices through the Steam store using the default setup.
- Forza Motorsport is Unsupported on Steam Deck and SteamOS devices.
Before you start playing Forza Horizon 6 on Steam Deck, we recommend that your device is fully up to date with the latest SteamOS version. You can check for updates by pressing the “Steam” button and navigating to Settings > System > Check for updates.

Why don't some game features work on SteamOS devices?
- Some functionality, such as game invites, work through the Xbox Game Bar app. Currently some Xbox and Microsoft apps are not available by default on SteamOS and additional setup may be required.
Can I play Forza games on Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) using my SteamOS device?

This section is meant to provide some troubleshooting for players experiencing launch or stability issues when playing on Steam Deck or other SteamOS devices when using default settings.

Restart your SteamOS device
- Hold down the power button until power settings opens
- Select Restart

Manually update the game
- Steam Button > Downloads
- Download any pending updates.

Reset your copy of Forza on Steam
- Steam button > Library > select game
- Select COG icon on the right.
- Select properties > Local Files
- Click 'Verify Integrity of Local Game Files...'

Check for updates
- Steam button > Settings > System > Check for updates

Beta Participation settings
- Steam button > Settings > System > Beta Participation
- Set to "Stable"

Stop using Compatibility tools on the app
- Pick a game and head to the little COG icon on the right.
- Click Properties > Compatibility
- Uncheck "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool"

Delete Proton Files
- Pick a game and head to the little COG icon on the right.
- Click Developer > Delete Proton Files
