Location Q&A
Q: Where does Forza Horizon 6 take place?
Forza Horizon 6 takes place in the scenic and breathtaking landscapes of Japan, where the stunning contrasts of rural and urban come together all while you uncover the secrets hidden within Horizon's largest map yet, one that is full of verticality, diverse biomes and spectacular driving experiences. While we are not necessarily trying to recreate Japan and its environments like for like, our goal has always been to capture the country’s unique cultural essence and present it back in the most Horizon way possible with attention and care for the details.
Q: Why did Playground Games choose Japan?
Japan is the ideal location for Forza Horizon 6, full of beautiful landscapes and stunning contrasts of rural and urban, modern and traditional. It’s one of the most iconic and requested locations by the community, and bringing the Horizon Festival to this incredible region has been one of our largest ambitions yet.
Leveraging the latest advancements in our technology and design, we are creating a Horizon Festival in Japan that we hope you will fall in love with.
We can't wait for you to discover the brilliant driving roads and rich heritage of Japan in Forza Horizon 6 when it releases on May 19, 2026.
Q: Will Tokyo City be featured in Forza Horizon 6’s Japan?
Yes, Tokyo City will be featured, and it is the largest urban environment that has ever been in a Forza Horizon game. Our Tokyo City is five times larger than Forza Horizon 5’s Guanajuato – with multiple districts, each featuring its own unique identity. From the suburbs and iconic downtown streets to the docks and industrial zones, we’ve created a city where we hope that every road, every corner and every shortcut will be fun to drive and a delight to explore with your friends.
We can’t wait for you to discover the neon lights and bustle of one of our most detailed and layered environments to date.
Q: What can players expect from Japan? How does the map differ from those featured in previous Forza Horizon games?
We’re excited to show fans the true breadth of beauty – both natural and urban environments – that Japan has to offer. It’s the largest map in a Horizon game yet, and it’s full of verticality, diverse biomes, seasonality and breathtaking driving experiences.
Japan is home to driving experiences unlike anywhere else, and that all begins with the streets. Take your favorite JDM cars on roads inspired by the C1 loop, Gingko Avenue, and mountain passes, like Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma.
From the neon lights and bustle of Tokyo City – one of our most detailed and layered environments to date – to the serenity and natural beauty of Japan’s rural and mountain areas, we think players will be blown away by the open world of Japan that we have built.
And while we are not necessarily trying to recreate Japan and its environments like for like, our goal has always been to capture the country’s unique cultural essence and present it back in the most Horizon way possible.
Q: How did the team approach the artistic design of Japan? Were there highlights the team wanted to capture in-game or challenges presented when bringing it to life?
To deliver the most compelling and authentic game possible, we sought out advice and insight from people with deep and life-long experience of Japan and Japanese Culture.
Those individuals worked with us to reveal blind spots, provide guidance, identify opportunities, and help us build a version of Japan which captures the essence of the location while staying true to the Horizon gameplay experience.
We also traveled to Japan to capture reference material, helping us represent everything that makes this such a special and unique location. This included time lapses of real Japanese skies, photogrammetry of trees and geology, scans of roads and buildings, and things as simple as water kickup and the way fallen cherry blossoms respond to passing cars. We then adapt all that reference material for Horizon’s fun and exciting open world gameplay.
Additionally, many of the murals, signs, and graphic design elements throughout the world were created by Japanese Artists, and you’ll see these as you explore the game and take in the sights.
Q: How have you worked with Japanese locals to ensure the game feels true to the culture of its setting? Were there any things you learned that surprised the team?
We partnered closely with a Japanese cultural consultant, artists, and voiceover talent because it was so important to us to deliver a game that feels like an authentic representation of Japan, as well as showcase its beauty. It has been such an amazing experience working closely with so many who have enabled us to bring the life and spirit of Japan into this game.
Q: How did you approach the artistic design of murals in Forza Horizon 6?
To further enrich the world of Forza Horizon 6, we collaborated with Japanese artists to create a series of murals which can be found across our map. These designs are original and authentic, with inspiration drawn from the very regions which inspired much of the game design of Forza Horizon 6 itself.
We can't wait for you to explore the map, discover these murals for yourself, and capture snaps of them for your Collection Journal.
Q: Which artists did you work with for these creations?
In total, nine Japanese artists have their visions brought to life in Forza Horizon 6 and you will get to discover their stunning murals in Horizon Japan:
- Dragon76
- Kazuhisa
- Inko
- Kenji
- Lady Aiko
- Naoshi
- Okuyama
- Tatsuro
- Wakana
Q: Where can I learn more about the murals in Forza Horizon 6?
Check out ‘The Art of Driving’ series on the official Forza YouTube channel. Across three documentary-style episodes, you will get to meet some of the artists we’ve collaborated with: Dragon76, Kazuhisa, and Inko, and discover the inspirations behind the new, original art they’ve created for Forza Horizon 6. You can also learn more about these artists in this Forza.net blog.
Q: Will Dynamic Seasons be available in Forza Horizon 6, and how do they differ to the seasons in Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Horizon 5?
For Japan, the team had the opportunity to move back to more dramatic seasonal variation than seen in Mexico.
Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter are all authentically represented and distinctly different – from the changing visuals of landscapes, crops, foliage and weather to the unique and subtle soundscapes, ensuring every season carries its own feel, beauty, and personality.
Additionally, one of the ways Forza Horizon 6's seasons are uniquely different from the previous games, is that regardless of whether it's Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, you can throw on some snow-tires and enjoy snow year-round in our mountainous Alpine region!
Campaign Q&A
Q: What’s new in the Forza Horizon 6 campaign?
The Horizon Festival is a celebration of beautiful cars, iconic music and breathtaking locations around the world.
In Forza Horizon 6, you will explore a vast campaign of discovery and Festival racing, playable solo and in co-op with your friends. When you first arrive in Japan, you don’t start as a Superstar of the Festival, or a racing champion. Nor do you start as a rookie. Instead, you’ll start out as just a tourist.
Forza Horizon 6’s campaign is focused on your journey and building a name for yourself. Along the way, you will meet the Legends of the Horizon Festival and experience authentic stories rooted in Japan’s legendary car culture.
Your first goal is to join the Horizon Festival, and you can do this by completing the Horizon Qualifiers. After that, you'll rise through the ranks, unlocking Wristbands as you complete races and events in faster and more exciting cars.
At the end of each Round, you must prove you're ready to move up by completing spectacular events to unlock your next Wristband. These include classic Horizon Showcases, and new Horizon Rush events where you show off your skills on thrilling obstacle courses, featuring exciting locations such as Tokyo City Docks.
When you finally earn your Gold Wristband, you will receive an invite to access Legend Island – an exclusive region of the world, with unique events, tracks and areas to explore. And once you make it there, it will be a true accomplishment, one that reflects your skills and determination.
Throughout that journey, all of Japan except for the Legend Island is yours to explore at your own pace. Exploration is at the heart of Forza Horizon 6, and everything you find on your road trip in Japan is something for you to collect: cars, houses, landmarks, mascots, and more – it’s all tracked in your Collection Journal.
Q: How does campaign progression work in Forza Horizon 6?
In Forza Horizon 6, Festival races are a curated experience, requiring you to enter using a specific set of cars in Road, Dirt and Cross Country events. With each new Wristband that you earn, you’ll be invited to compete in more events around Japan, and as you rise through the ranks of the Horizon Festival, these races will feature car themes – challenging you to master faster, more thrilling cars. Completing Festival Events, as well as activities like PR Stunts and Skills, will help you progress towards your next Wristband.
Q: When can I use Hypercars in Festival Events?
With the structured restrictions of the Horizon Festival, Hypercars can’t be used in Festival races until you’ve obtained at least the Purple Wristband, which is quite late into the game. This means players who want to stay engaged in the stricter progression system can do that in the official Horizon Festival events, while others who want to immediately jump into the fastest cars will have unofficial events as part of Discover Japan open to them.
Q: Can I drive any car in Free Roam?
Yes. Car restrictions only apply for official Horizon Festival races. You can use any car for events outside of the Horizon Festival such as Street Races, as well as Shared Open World activities including Car Meets, Drag Meets, and Time Attack Circuits. You are always able to drive any car in your collection in Free Roam no matter how many Wristbands you have. Additionally, once you have completed a Horizon Festival event, you can use the Race Customizer to set up your own car restrictions and use any vehicle that you already own.
Q: Can I replay Festival Events using any car in my garage?
After a Festival Event with car restrictions has been completed for the first time, the Race Customizer will be unlocked for that specific event. In the event setup menu, you can adjust the number of Drivatars (up to 11), season, weather, time of day, time progression, number of laps, Rewind availability, camera lock, and traffic. By default, the Race Customizer will select a Car Theme that matches your current car, and there are also several other Car Themes to choose from, including pre-made classes and type-based restrictions. If you prefer, you can even pick each individual car that is permitted for the event.
If you’re playing with friends and set up an event as the Convoy leader, the rest of the Convoy will join you and play that event the same way you shaped it.
Q: What are Wristband Events?
Once you’ve earned enough progress, you must complete a thrilling Wristband Event to earn your next Wristband. These include spectacular Showcase Events – you might have caught a glimpse of ‘Chaser Zero’, Horizon’s own racing mech at the end of the Developer_Direct video – as well as the brand-new Horizon Rush events featuring exciting locations at Tokyo City Docks, the Sotoyama Ski Resort and Irokawa Space Center.
Q: What are Horizon Rush obstacle courses?
Horizon Rush is the ultimate test of a driver against the course. Complete exhilarating obstacle courses as quicky as possible to earn the maximum stars. Throughout the course, splits will track your time helping you improve, whether you’re aiming for three stars, or the top of the leaderboards.
Q: What characters will I meet in the Forza Horizon 6 campaign?
When you first land in Japan, you won't be by yourself. Two new Horizon characters, Mei and Jordy, also share your dream of joining the Horizon Festival, and they will be there to help you qualify and discover everything Japan has to offer.
Jordy is a passionate motorsports enthusiast who understands the competitiveness of racing, while Mei is an experienced Japanese car builder, and will provide cultural insights and introductions on your journey throughout Japan.
You can join Mei for authentic day trips to experience the unique brilliance of each region, and she will be there for you every step of the way to Legend Island.
Q: What is Legend Island?
Obtain all 7 Festival Wristbands, and you’ll become a Horizon Legend. That title grants you access to Legend Island, an exclusive space reserved for the greatest drivers, featuring the challenging Legend Island Circuit and unique events including our longest Goliath event ever – the Colossus, which loops the entire map on the freeway. It’s the perfect place for R-class cars. Making it to Legend Island will be a true accomplishment and a reflection of your skills and determination.
Legend Island is only accessible to Horizon Legends.
Q: What can I expect from the campaign beyond the Horizon Festival?
While the Horizon Festival provides a progression-driven structure, Japan is also an incredible place to be explored at your own pace. That’s where Discover Japan comes in. While the Horizon Festival focuses on earning Wristbands, Discover Japan is all about obtaining Stamps – a system inspired by Japan’s rich stamp collecting history.
Whether you’re taking photos while cruising the roads of Japan, delivering food as a side hustle, collecting new cars, or playing through Horizon Stories, you will always be earning progress towards your next Stamp. As part of Discover Japan, you can also compete in Touge Battles and thrilling night-time Street Races, which are the perfect place to race the cars you might not be able to use in Festival Events just yet.
Q: What can I unlock by collecting Stamps from Discover Japan?
Collecting Stamps for your Collection Journal will unlock new Player Houses around Japan with Customizable Garages for you to buy, as well as Barn Find Rumors and The Estate – a mountain valley where you can build and decorate directly in the open world.
Q: What is the Collection Journal?
You’ll track your campaign progression across both Horizon Festival and Discover Japan in the Collection Journal. Each of these paths can be progressed at your leisure. If you’re the type of player who wants to embark on your own road trips, there’s great news for you too – everything that you discover in Japan is tracked in your Collection Journal. It’s also where you can redeem unique rewards for completing specific activities and challenges, and these will include cars, credits, and cosmetic items.
Additionally, anything that you photograph for your Collection Journal will be saved there, so you always have a wonderful keepsake of your adventures to look back on. And if you capture a better photo later, you can even swap them out!
Q: Why do I only get a Wheelspin every 3 levels instead of every 1 level?
To maintain the integrity of the progression at the heart of this game, we’ve rebalanced Wheelspins, and especially Super Wheelspins, to be rarer to earn throughout playing the game and more rewarding when you do spin them.
Q: Does Forza Horizon 6 feature achievements?
Yes! Forza Horizon 6 launches with 57 achievements, worth a total of 1,000 Gamerscore. These achievements are obtainable on the Xbox and Steam versions of the game and encourage you to earn new Wristbands at the Horizon Festival and Stamps for your Collection Journal.
You’ll also be rewarded for obtaining cars, completing unique events, and participating in Multiplayer game modes.

These are great for sticking in windows or giving a base to build your livery on. Additional decals can also be unlocked as rewards in the Collection Journal.

Our Skills System is always rewarding, whether drifting, getting big air, or banking incredible skill chains, and now you can earn these skills together.
Our new LINK Skills feature rewards you if you bank a skill at the same time as another player – so whether you're tandem drifting or you've choreographed a 12-player Barrell Roll, you’ll be rewarded for doing so.
LINK Skills are the most frictionless way to play with other Horizon drivers as you explore Japan together.
Q: What’s new with Car Meets in Forza Horizon 6?
In Forza Horizon 6, Car Meets are now integrated into the Shared Open World. This means that you can drive past a Car Meet and see real live players and join them instantly without any loading screens to slow you down.
Car Meets are places where you can show off your cars, download tunes and liveries that have been shared, and even buy a stock version of the incredible cars that you see from the Autoshow. Each player’s character, featuring their personalized look and clothing selections, will also be standing beside their car, and you can enter a first-person camera on a car-by-car basis to get a closer look at each vehicle on display.
Car Meets are also a great opportunity to meet new friends and start a Convoy, so you can head out together and explore Japan, where you'll find classic events, like Street Races and new Touge Battles – iconic night-time races down Japanese mountain passes.
Q: Which Car Meet locations are in Forza Horizon 6?
There will be three Car Meet locations scattered throughout Japan, including the Horizon Festival Site, the Okuibuki Parking Lot located high up in the alpine, and of course, we have Daikoku – an iconic car meetup in Tokyo City inspired by the real-world location. That’s not all; we’ll also be adding new temporary Car Meets throughout our Live Program on the Festival Playlist.
Q: What can we expect from Drag Meets in Forza Horizon 6?
Drag Meets are a new Shared World feature where you test your car’s performance across multiple, varied Drag Strips. At launch there will be 3 Drag Strips: the Festival Site 1K, the Irokawa Space Center ¼ Mile, and the Airfield 1/2 Mile.
To start a Drag Meet, simply drive to a start grid and "ready up." Then, wait for the green light and floor it! Drag Meet tree lights are synchronized for every player, so you can all take off together. Yes – we heard you – synchronized tree lights are back!
Each Drag Meet can host up to 12 players, and like Time Attack, there is no matchmaking and loading screens, so the entire experience is seamless.
Drag Meets also support new Convoy Leaderboards and weekly in-world Leaderboards too, so be sure to upgrade your car for fast acceleration and high speeds.
Q: What can we expect from Time Attack Circuits in Forza Horizon 6?
Time Attack challenges you to set the fastest lap time across multiple circuits in the Shared World. Think of it a bit like Shared World Rivals.
Time Attack takes place across multiple grassroots circuits, from high-speed road circuits to thrilling offroad adventure parks; each one offers a unique challenge – there's even one on Legend Island!
To start one, simply drive through the gantry and away you go. There are no loading times, no instance out; everything takes place within the Shared World. Your next objective is simple: set the fastest lap time possible.
When you set your first lap time, you lock in your ‘Current Best’ – that’s your time to beat! In Time Attack, you seamlessly hot lap as many times as you like, and for every lap you complete, you’ll earn Credits and XP along the way. You'll also see your time-splits throughout the circuit.
Q: How do the Leaderboards work for Time Attack Circuits?
We believe that Horizon is better together, and Time Attack is no exception. Time Attack Circuits will allow you to compete with your friends in real-time on the new Convoy Leaderboard, which shows your Convoy's current best lap times on the circuit. Simply invite them to a Convoy and away you go.
Remember, this is all in the Shared World. Players can turn up in any car they like... so you never quite know who’ll show up.
Every Time Attack Circuit is accompanied by an in-world Leaderboard, which shows the best times across the globe. These Leaderboards show your best time at your car’s current PI level, your next rival, and the global top 3 across the community. These Leaderboards reset each season, creating a brand-new weekly routine at the Horizon Festival and a reason to return to the circuit every week, where you can get your name up in lights.
Q: What other Leaderboards does Forza Horizon 6 include?
In addition to the new Convoy Leaderboards and in-world Leaderboard for our Shared Open World features, there will also be classic Leaderboards for PR Stunts and Rivals as before. What’s more, all Leaderboards can now be filtered by PI class, and while Time Attack Circuit and Drag Meet Leaderboards reset weekly, all other Leaderboards in the game are permanent.

EventLab Q&A
Q: What new features are available for builders in Forza Horizon 6?
In Forza Horizon 6, you'll have new ways to shape the world, with features that let you make a life for yourself in Japan. These include Customizable Garages, The Estate, and Horizon CoLab, as well as several upgrades to the EventLab toolset. When we started the development of Forza Horizon 6 our goal was clear: improve our toolset to give you more options, more custom spaces to make your own, and more freedom to let your creativity flow and shape the world your way.
Q: How does Garage Customization work in Forza Horizon 6?
We have expanded our Player Houses feature from previous Forza Horizon games to include an all-new Customizable Garage for every single one of them that are enough for multiple cars, where you can freely decorate the entire space and create a showroom for your automotive collection.
You can really make this space your own: fill it all with as many props as you can afford (don’t worry, you will get back the full value if you remove them), mix them and match them however you like to create your own themes, or let chaos reign; it’s entirely up to you. In a garage, you can display up to four cars, choose the best spot for your character to strike a pose, and take a closer look in Forzavista!
When you're done, you can invite your friends over to see what you built, and you can also visit another player’s garage and see their cars and their character in the space they have built. There is even an option to download garage layouts shared online by the community and use them as your own in any of your personal garages to show off your favorite cars.
Q: Can I explore my customized garage once it has been decorated?
Players will be able to move around freely in both their own garages, and the garages of other players, using a drone camera. This will allow you to explore all levels of a garage to fully appreciate the design. When visiting another player's garage, you'll also be able to see the owner's character standing where they decided to place their character in their garage.
Q: What is The Estate?
The Estate is the ultimate place to express your creativity. This vast building space is surrounded by sprawling mountains and cliffs where you can create the home of your dreams.
This mountain valley starts off completely empty and overgrown, but once you unlock it, you can build and decorate directly in the open world here. Powered by the upgraded EventLab toolset, you have all the flexibility to create whatever you can imagine: urban spaces, forests, a festival of your own... you name it. This permanent space is yours to decorate as you like/
What’s more, anything you construct is permanent and visitable by your friends that join your game session while you are the leader. Just like with the Customizable Garages, you can also download and visit shared Estates that have been created by other players.
Q: What is Horizon CoLab?
We know you love to collaborate with your fellow community members, so in Forza Horizon 6, we're bringing multiplayer building to EventLab. In Horizon CoLab, you and your friends for up to 12 players total can build anything you can imagine in the open world of Japan, together.
Whether you’re teaming up with careful collaborators who build incredible events or areas to explore, or you just want to place down ramps and smashables and create fun chaos for your friends as they drive through the open world, Horizon CoLab makes it happen.
Q: Is Horizon CoLab supported for Customizable Garages and The Estate?
Customizable Garages and The Estate will only support solo building.
Q: What else is new for EventLab in Forza Horizon 6?
As we were working on Customizable Garages and The Estate, we decided to introduce a series of improvements to EventLab, the powerful gameplay toolset that enables you to craft custom experiences, races, challenges, stunts, and more.
Now you can Stamp props when building in EventLab. This allows you to quickly place the same object into the world repeatedly. You can also test your creations as you build them with the new Free Drive option (which doesn’t impact the driving line for your event). And for you solo builders, we added Undo and Redo, allowing you to quickly go back and forth on the latest changes you’ve made to your map.
EventLab now also allows you to start building anywhere in the world to create your own custom space with just a few button presses. This will give you the opportunity to create incredible events fueled by your imagination; the sky is not the limit here!
Additionally, you can now move your start grid within the Route Creator. This means not only can you start building anywhere, but you can even build a world in the sky, and then move your start line up to your built world and create a Route there.
When entering EventLab, the game will automatically generate 12 grid positions for you – providing that there's space to do so. If you're creating your Event on a road, it will even automatically align them to it in a classic grid format. You can freely edit these after though to create any grid format you desire. Want to create a drag style lineup? You can do that, or spread them out all across your Event. You can even start them all facing in a circle if you want to.
Precision Mode is also back! This allows you to toggle on a precision camera while placing props, which slows down movement. Orbit Camera has stayed too and can be toggled in the options menu.
Q: Can I still create Super7 Challenges in Forza Horizon 6?
Players can still create their own Challenges in Forza Horizon 6! We’ve folded Super7 into EventLab, which means building in the Challenge Creator also benefits from all the new upgrades we’ve introduced to the EventLab toolset. Now you can build and play your Challenges anywhere in Japan, and instead of event activation points appearing on the map, Challenges are now all stored within their own category in the EventLab menu.
Q: Can I publish EventLab races and challenges for the community to play?
Yes! Once you’ve finished building your masterpiece, you can share it with the entire Horizon community. We've also worked on improved Trending logic, allowing everyone to discover an always evolving catalog of exciting new content.
